Welcome to the English section of the Shenmen Health website.

Shenmen Heath is a practice for acupuncture treatment, lymphatic drainage or edema therapy.

Here is a brief explanation of what we can do for you by providing these treatment techniques.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Amsterdam
Shenmen Health Amsterdam provides treatment for people with a broad range of complaints. An acupuncture treatment is aimed at restoration of your energy balance and thus on your health.
Acupuncture is one of the branches of ancient Chinese medicine that we apply. Other areas include herbal preparations and massages. Chinese medicine takes a different approach to illness to Western medicine; it takes a holistic view of the person’s body and soul.

Shenmen Health Amsterdam specializes in acupuncture for:

  • menopause problems;
  • lymphatic drainage;
  • muscle and joint problems;
  • neurological problems;
  • insomnia;

  • abdominal complaints.

Eastern and Western medicine
I work together with physiotherapists, dietitians, psychologists, manual therapists and other disciplines in order to get the best treatment outcomes. You will receive individualized acupuncture treatment at Shenmen Health Amsterdam. Not only your symptoms, but the root of your problem will also be addressed. Lymphatic drainage or edema therapy:

Manual Lymphatic drainage is a specialized area of physiotherapy that focuses on fluid accumulation below the skin. This problem may occur following surgery, in which a part of the lymphatic vascular system needed to be removed or following chemotherapy or radiation treatment. This usually occurs when there is an increase in the amount of lymphatic fluid because the body uses this to remove many waste products. This includes large proteins that also attract much moisture in turn.
In general, lymphatic drainage gives no problems in good health. When the lymphatic vascular system is unable to cope with the supply of lymphatic fluid, this will become noticeable because an arm or a leg will increase in size in a short period of time. This lymphatic fluid can, if it is not drained, cause a hard feeling or a tight feeling in the skin. By applying a technique for draining/removing this excess fluid from the lymphatic system, it is possible for this system to expand in order to be able to effectively drain the excess fluid away again.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): how does it work?
We practice manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) for the above condition. This is a form of massage therapy that focusses on pressure changes that ensure improved drainage. In addition to providing MLD, we also provide advice about how to deal with edema formation and how to prevent edema formation. Exercises are also provided to assist recovery from any restrictions that may occur due to edema formation or due to operations that have led to this problem.
